How to earn a Michelin Star

The question of how the MICHELIN Guide recognizes a restaurant is an unending one among chefs and restaurants in the Food and Beverage scene.

Nobody really knows who rates the restaurants and how they are evaluated. But we’re here to shed some light on the assessment criteria that might be used to award the infamous Michelin Stars.

If a tire manufacturer decides who gets Michelin stars, what is it that makes them so special? First, you should know that Michelin operates only in certain regions, so you can't be considered unless your restaurant is located in an area that the guide covers.

Consider that Michelin uses anonymous inspectors to evaluate restaurants before you put your time and energy into earning that elusive star. You’ll also never know when to expect one. They will look to be quickly seated, served attentively, and delighted with food that goes well beyond an average meal.

Nobody knows for sure what it takes to earn a Michelin star, but there are stories from chefs online who have won at least one star. A meticulously clean kitchen, staff paying the utmost attention to detail, and dishes prepared with a French accent tend to receive Michelin's attention. You can also partner up with local bloggers and food writers to get on the radar of the Michelin Guide.

And that’s it! Until now, nobody really knows who the people are that rate the restaurants but one thing’s for sure, consistency will always be the key to earning the infamous Michelin Star.
